The MHS Basketball teams went on the road to take on Gates County in their first conference contest of the year.
The Women’s Basketball team is a dark horse this season to make a run at the conference title. The Lady Redskins entered the game with a 4-1 overall record. The Lady Redskins dominated the game winning 57-35. Coach Butler said they had one of the best shooting performances he has seen since being named the head coach.
This year the Lady Redskins are lead by Senior Skylar Williamson scoring 13.3 pts/game followed by Junior Genesis Greggory scoring 13 pts/game.

The Men’s Basketball team followed the Lady Redskins victory of Gates with a very tough fought contest. The Men’s Basketball team is much improved this season and entered their first Conference game with a 5-2 overall record. In the fourth quarter the Redskins found themselves down 15 points needing a spark. The Redskins rally back scoring 25 points in the fourth quarter but Gates County held on to win the game 66-63.
This Men’s Basketball team shows up and competes every game. They are exciting to watch. The team is lead by Senior Clay Rice scoring 11.8 pts/game and Junior Darren Saunders scoring 10 pts/game.
